This photo was taken by a Wings of Wonder friend the summer of 2008. The building in the upper left of the pictures is our admissions and gift shop, which is connected to our rearing lab by a covered walkway. The small greenhouse at the end of the rearing lab contains live vegetation to supply our growing number of zebra white and Julia butterfly colonies. Our exhibit greenhouse can be seen to the far right along the paved road. Unseen in the photo are hundreds of colorful butterflies we release into the exhibit on a weekly basis and the ever growing and changing tropical foliage to make them feel at home. Centered between the two buildings are the butterfly gardens full of thousands of flowers planted several times each year by hand. Can you see the three permanent butterflies who make up part of the garden? These gardens are here to provide a visual delight to our visitors as well as a sheltered rest stop the butterflies and other wildlife passing through the area. |
